Mouthguard Instructions
You would have had detailed instructions when you received your new custom-made mouthguard at Carlingford Dental Surgery.
The following additional information will ensure that you can get the maximum benefit from your custom-made mouthguard:
- Wear your mouthguard only for playing sport.
- Never let anyone else use your mouthguard, as this will damage it.
- Wet your mouthguard with cold water to help slip it into your mouth.
- When finished with using your mouthguard, wash it in cold running water.
- Always store the mouthguard in its case and avoid leaving it in the sun, in the car, or near places of heat, which will deform it.
- While cleaning is not necessary, you may use a soft toothbrush and mild kitchen detergent to gently clean the mouthguard.
- Your teeth position may change with time and so your mouthguard may be more difficult to fit or uncomfortable to wear. We may be able to make minor adjustments to improve the fit and delay the need for a new mouthguard. NEVER try and modify the mouthguard yourself, as it may cause irreversible damage and provide limited protection.
